Swimming Pool Construction Cost in India

Real 2026 rates, a line-by-line breakdown of where every rupee goes, and the running costs most builders leave out. No form to fill before you read it.

Swimming pool construction in India starts at around ₹ 1,000 per square foot, with most complete projects starting from ₹ 8 lakh. A 12 × 24 ft family pool typically lands between ⟦VERIFY: ₹ 8 and ₹ 14 lakh⟧ and takes 8 to 14 weeks to build. Smaller pools cost more per square foot, because equipment and plumbing cost the same at any size.

Why Nobody Will Give You a Straight Answer

Ask three pool contractors what a pool costs and you will get three numbers that cannot be compared. One quotes a lump sum. One quotes per square foot but will not say what is inside it. One quotes low and excludes excavation in a footnote you find later.

We think that is the actual problem people face, not the price itself.

So this page does something most contractor websites avoid. It publishes our rates, shows what each line item costs, explains what pushes a project up or down, and tells you what the pool will cost to run after it is built.

Read it before you speak to anyone — including us. It will make every quotation you receive easier to judge.

What a Swimming Pool Starts At

Two numbers matter, and they answer different questions. Our rates start at ₹ 1,000 per square foot of pool area. Our minimum complete project is around ₹ 8 lakh. Both are true at the same time, and the reason is worth understanding before you compare any quotation.

Why small pools cost more per square foot

A swimming pool is not priced like flooring, where twice the area costs twice the money. A large share of the cost does not scale with size at all. The pump, the filter, the skimmers, the main drain, the plumbing runs, the electrical work, the earthing, the dosing system and the commissioning are substantially the same whether the pool is 200 square feet or 800. So is bringing machinery to site. Spread those fixed costs across a small pool and the per-square-foot figure climbs sharply. Spread them across a larger one and it falls. This is why a ₹ 2 lakh pool does not exist in any meaningful form, and why anyone quoting one is either leaving something out or selling you a lined tank.

What You Get at Each Rate

“Per square foot” means nothing on its own. Here is what changes as the rate moves.

Rate per sq ft What it typically includes Suits
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 1,000 – ₹ 1,500⟧
RCC skimmer pool, standard waterproofing, ceramic tile finish, sand filter, single-speed pump, basic lighting, plain concrete deck
Straightforward plots, larger simple pools, budget-conscious builds
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 1,500 – ₹ 2,500⟧
Crystalline waterproofing plus membrane at joints, better tile, correctly sized filtration, LED lighting, stone coping, anti-skid deck
Most family villa pools
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 2,500 – ₹ 4,000⟧
Glass mosaic finish, variable-speed pump, automated dosing, salt chlorination, custom shape, feature lighting, designed deck
Premium villa and farmhouse pools
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 4,000+⟧
Overflow or infinity edge with balance tank, imported finishes, full automation, heating, water features, integrated spa
Infinity pools, resorts, luxury properties

When you compare quotations, the useful question is not “what is your rate” — it is “what is in your rate”. Two contractors at the same number can be offering very different pools.

Swimming Pool Cost by Size

The most common question we get is what a specific size costs. Here are the standard dimensions people ask about most.

Pool size pool area Typical cost (RCC) Build time
10 × 20 ft plunge
200 sq ft
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 8 – 11 lakh⟧
6 – 10 weeks
12 × 24 ft family
288 sq ft
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 8 – 14 lakh⟧
8 – 12 weeks
15 × 30 ft
450 sq ft
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 10 – 18 lakh⟧
10 – 14 weeks
20 × 40 ft
800 sq ft
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 14 – 28 lakh⟧
12 – 16 weeks
25 × 50 ft
1,250 sq ft
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 20 – 40 lakh⟧
14 – 20 weeks

Notice how the per-square-foot figure falls as the pool grows. A 10 × 20 ft plunge pool works out far higher per square foot than a 20 × 40 ft pool, because the equipment and plumbing are nearly identical. If you are choosing between two sizes, the larger one is almost always better value per square foot. Whether you need it is a different question, and we will tell you honestly if we think you are over-building for your space.

Which should you actually choose?

Concrete if you want a custom shape, an unusual depth, an infinity edge, or a pool meant to last twenty-five years and more. It costs more upfront and it outlives everything else. Fiberglass if the site is straightforward, a standard size fits, and you want it finished within a month. Lower maintenance, faster handover, less design freedom. On tight sites it can be impossible simply because the shell will not fit down the approach road. B12. ⭐ WHERE THE MONEY GOES H2: Where the Money Actually Goes Body: Vinyl liner is the cheapest entry point and the highest long-term cost, because the liner is a consumable. We rarely recommend it for a permanent home pool.

Where the Money Actually Goes

A quotation that says “swimming pool — ₹ 12,00,000” tells you nothing. Here is how that figure breaks down on a typical RCC build, so you can check any quotation you receive against it.

Line item Share of project cost What it covers
Excavation and earthwork
8 – 15%
Digging, rock breaking if required, spoil disposal, shoring
RCC shell
30 – 40%
Steel reinforcement, shuttering, concrete, curing
Waterproofing
8 – 12%
Crystalline treatment into the slab, membrane at joints and penetrations
Plumbing and filtration
15 – 20%
Pipework, pump, filter, skimmers, main drain, return jets, balance tank
Tiling and finish
15 – 25%
Ceramic ⟦VERIFY: ₹ 400–600/sq ft⟧ or glass mosaic ⟦VERIFY: ₹ 9001,800/sq ft⟧
Lighting and electrical
3 – 6%
Underwater lights, earthing, MCBs, conduits, equipment panel
Deck and coping
5 – 12%
Anti-skid stone, coping, surface drainage
Commissioning
2 – 4%
Pressure testing, filtration run-in, water balancing, handover training

Ask any contractor you are considering to show you a breakdown at this level. If they will not, you have learned something useful about how the project will run.

Swimming Pool Cost by State and City

Rates do not vary much by state. What varies is the ground under the plot, the climate the pool has to survive, and how far materials and machinery have to travel. Those three things move the final number far more than geography does.

Location What drives cost locally Read more
Hyderabad
Deccan granite — rock excavation is the biggest variable. Hard borewell water affects filtration choice
Swimming pool contractors in Hyderabad
Telangana districts
Hotter summers, higher evaporation. Black cotton soil in parts of Nalgonda and Khammam

Bangalore
Variable depth to rock, sometimes across one plot. Higher water table near old tank beds

Andhra Pradesh

Maharashtra
Basalt rock around Pune, very heavy monsoon in the Ghats, black cotton soil in Vidarbha

The honest summary: a 12 × 24 ft pool does not cost dramatically more in Bengaluru than in Hyderabad. It costs more if your plot is solid rock, if the water table needs dewatering, or if a concrete mixer cannot reach the site.

That is why we survey before quoting rather than applying a state-wide rate.

What a Pool Costs to Run

This is the part almost nobody mentions before you sign, and it is worth knowing now rather than in your second summer.

Item Monthly cost (12 × 24 ft pool) Notes
Pump electricity
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 2,000 – 4,000⟧
A variable-speed pump reduces this substantially
Chemicals
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 1,000 – 2,500⟧
Higher in peak summer
Water top-up
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 500 – 3,000⟧
Evaporation and backwash. Highest March to June
Maintenance / AMC
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 3,000 – 8,000⟧
Or your own time
Total
⟦VERIFY: ₹ 4,000 – 10,000⟧
Heated and larger pools cost more

Three things reduce this meaningfully: a pool cover, correctly sized filtration so you backwash less often, and a variable-speed pump. All three cost more at build stage and less every month afterwards. Most contractors do not raise the cover because it is not a profitable line item. We would rather you knew.

How to Compare Three Quotations Properly

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

A low quotation frequently excludes this, or says “as per actual”.

A surface coating and a crystalline treatment are not the same product.

This is the most commonly skipped step and the most common cause of a leak nobody can find later.

“Standard filtration” means the same pump goes on every pool regardless of volume.

This is 5 to 12 percent and it usually appears after the shell is done.

If a contractor will not answer those six in writing, that tells you something useful about how the project will run.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a swimming pool cost in India?

Construction starts at around ₹ 1,000 per square foot, with most complete projects starting from ₹ 8 lakh. A 12 × 24 ft family pool typically lands between ⟦VERIFY: ₹ 8 and ₹ 14 lakh⟧. The range depends mostly on excavation conditions, waterproofing system, equipment grade and finish.

Because a large part of a pool does not scale with size. The pump, filter, skimmers, plumbing, electrical work and commissioning cost roughly the same on a small pool as a large one. Spread across a small pool, those fixed costs push the per-square-foot figure up sharply.

A compact plunge pool of around 10 × 20 ft is the practical entry point, at roughly ⟦VERIFY: ₹ 8 lakh⟧. Below that, something has usually been removed from the specification — most often the waterproofing system or the filtration sizing, both of which cost far more to fix later than to do properly now.

An RCC concrete pool takes 8 to 14 weeks from excavation to handover, including curing that cannot be rushed. Fiberglass shells install in 2 to 4 weeks. Rock excavation adds one to three weeks, and monsoon can add more.

Not meaningfully, on rate. What changes the number is the ground under your specific plot. Rock excavation, a high water table needing dewatering, or an approach road a concrete mixer cannot use will all move the figure far more than which city you are in.

For a 12 × 24 ft residential pool, budget roughly ⟦VERIFY: ₹ 4,000 to ₹ 10,000⟧ a month covering pump electricity, chemicals, water top-up and either your own time or a maintenance contract. A pool cover, correctly sized filtration and a variable-speed pump all reduce this.

Fiberglass is usually cheaper upfront and faster to install. Concrete costs more initially and lasts longer, with full freedom in shape and depth. Over twenty-five years concrete is generally the lower total cost — but only if the waterproofing was done properly.

Because they are rarely for the same pool. Excavation, waterproofing system, equipment grade, filtration sizing, deck and commissioning are all frequently excluded from a low number. Ask every contractor for a line-by-line bill of quantities and the comparison becomes straightforward.

Yes. We survey the site, check soil and access, then issue an itemised bill of quantities listing every material, quantity and rate before anything is signed. If you want to change the tile or the depth, you see exactly what it does to the cost.
